Where

Founded in 1895, the ‘Masía San Juan’ is the oldest farmhouse in ‘Partida de la Cova’ and one of the last historic farmhouses still in use in ‘El Racó’ de Manises.

It is a paradigmatic example of a farmhouse in the region of ‘L’Horta’, as it attaches porches laterally to the house, which is compacted into two corridors that create a passageway with a back courtyard, showing how faithful it is to a strictly local model.

On this picturesque bank of the Turia River, formerly populated by pine trees, a scattered group of farmhouses devoted to the exploitation of oranges—thanks to the fertile soil—has flourished since the 19th century.

Since then, ‘Masía San Juan’ has seen five generations of the ‘Valldecabres’ family’, who have carefully preserved the original configuration and expanded the complex with the addition, from 1940, of the Chapel and an annexed dwelling, whose walls offer a sample of Manises ceramics.

The tiles that decorate the walls of the houses are created by the ‘Cerámicas Vilar’ factory, which belongs to Julián Vilar Esteve, married to María Luz Andrés Valldecabres, daughter of Dolores Valldecabres, one of the nine daughters of José Valldecabres Rodrigo.

It is, therefore, yet another of the most distinctive and valuable elements of ‘Masía San Juan’, making it a work of art whose colours complement those of the surrounding fields.
